Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has spoken out after drawing at Real Madrid, hailing Barcelona as the best team in the league and giving them a chance to close the gap on Sunday.

Simeone said of his team’s performance in the game: “I felt there were moments where we could have done better, but we didn’t. In the first half we could have made better decisions near the penalty area, but we weren’t as clinical as in other games.”

“In the second half, we had some counter-attack opportunities that we could have handled better. That’s what we lacked.”

The draw leaves Atletico Madrid one point behind Real Madrid, but they could be within a point of Barcelona if Hansi Flick’s side win at Sevilla on Sunday.

“We are in a very good position but Barcelona are the best team in La Liga right now. They are playing very well. If they can win in Sevilla, the table will be very tight and that would be good for journalists to have something fun to do together.”
